Germany's solar thermal market ranks 1st in Europe, even despite the challenges of the present economic crisis. Even though the growth the sector experienced in 2008 could not be extended into 2009, the solar thermal industry remains strong with double digit growth forecasted for the years to come. Today, more than 40 percent of the installed solar thermal systems in Europe are in Germany. This is mostly due to the incentives enacted by the German government (Wärmegesetzt) and to the consumers' positive attitude towards the use of environmentally-friendly energy for heating purposes.
