Industry Overview
The machinery and equipment industry in Germany is the second largest industry in the country and employs more people than any other industrial sector. The sector is dominated by 6,099 mostly small and medium sized companies that provide customized single product and small series to meet the strong demand of domestic manufacturing industries.
German machinery and equipment support production sites all over the world. Even in the economically difficult year of 2009, nineteen percent of all exported machinery products were made in Germany. The industry employs 939,000 highly qualified engineers and skilled workers to ensure the industry's leadership in exports.
