Renewable Energy
Germany - The World's Leader in Renewables
Industry Overview
Renewable energies are available in almost unlimited supply. In Germany, renewable energies have increasingly become an important economic and social factor. Today, Germany is a global leader in renewable energies. For example, in 2009, the use of renewable energies in Germany prevented the release of about 107 million tons of climate-damaging CO2. By increasing its renewable energy production as well as its energy efficiency, Germany hopes to achieve a number of key environmental targets. For example, it aims to bring greenhouse gas emissions 40% below 1990 levels and hopes to see a 3% annual growth in energy productivity through greater energy efficiency. Further details are available from the EU's Directorate General for the Environment as well as the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
