EU and EEA Nationals
Citizens of countries that joined the European Union before the 1st of May 2004 enjoy the freedom of movement for workers within the Single European Market. Therefore individuals from Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, and the United Kingdom do not need a permit in order to start working in Germany.
All they have to do is to register with the local residents' registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt), if their residence is located in Germany. The same applies to citizens of Switzerland and the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA) which additionally includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
